Tony Guinness - Almost Ep (1015ad)

NetLabel: www.after-dinner.net
Link: release
Style: minimal tech

Tony Guinness stands behind the latest release on After-Dinner: Almost EP. Tony, also known for his collaboration with Sam Smith as Pseudofunk has produced a very focussed collection dance-floor orientated minimal-techno tracks.

Almost, which come in two parts, is characterized by a very solid beat structure, which almost mechanically and highly effective builds this track. Throughout the tracks Tony introduces some very fine melodic elements, so softening their rigid structure. Almost EP futher features Mr. Smiths take on the theme. In his remix Smith puts more emphasises to the bass line and so adds a pinch of electro/funk too it.

Bonus track is Forgot This Chicken Snack, which again features Tony’s sense for solid beat structure, but this time in a slightly warmer production. If that gives a clue to the name, we don’t know.

Katzo - Raindrop Remixed Ep (1014AD)

NetLabel: www.after-dinner.net
Archive.org: 1014AD
Style: minimal tech, electronic, experimental

Stating the obvious, this is a release features remixes of Katzo’s track Raindrop. Raindrop was released in After-Dinner.net in October 2005. Due to licensing conflicts, we had to take the track off line in January 2006 (listen to a remaining sample here). To make up for the loss Katzo’s friends jumped in with a series of remixes:

The opening track is the Kikiorix remix: A minimal techno track, with clicks, bleeps and bubbles. It is a great adaptation of the original onto the dance floor.

Second is Enssei’s remix of Raindrop: the track stays quite close to the original, adding maybe somewhat of a folk element.

Coco takes the original into a more experimental field by playing with hisses and slow heart beat like kick.

Alex Fisher offers the last remix of the series and leads again into a very different direction: a song with great dynamic, with references to early house as well as indytronica.

Audio Dependent - Teatime (1013ad)

NetLabel: www.after-dinner.net
Archive.org: 1013AD
Style: minimal tech, tech-house

Audio Dependent releases Teatime EP: Four tracks of highly addictive minimal- electro- progressive- techno…err… keep reading, let me explain:

“After Me”, the opening track progresses slowly with its highs and some glitchy sounds in unspectacular, if not random arrangement. With the major trance hands-in-the-air breakdown, the tune brings all the elements together, making a ironic point of its very own juxtaposition. After Me continuous from this point with a solid techno kick, building up the tune again, but this time we know…

“Biscuit”opens with crumbles of bass and kick, held together in a rolling composition. After about 90 sec a strong bassline gives this track the necessary ground, but leaving room for constant variations variations within mids and highs.

“Into”opens with melancholic folk-synth sound. Holding back for more than a minute, it feels great when the tune unlashes the tremendous energy of its bassline and kick. A big track for a late night dancefloor.

“Milk, One Sugar”, the final track brings all elements of Audio Dependents current release together: A minimal composition, with heavy bass, electro flavours, many sounds reminding of Korg’s MS20 and a constant evolution, entertaining brain as much as legs.

NetLabel: www.after-dinner.net
Style: minimal tech

Monochord presents Contradictions EP: Four tracks combine the rhythm patterns of house music with sounds of 80’s electro in a minimal and playful production.

The first track Contradiction starts in breathtaking manner, building up tension up to a mid song breakdown. The track takes a major turn introducing playful elements of be-bop.

No Question No Answer is characterised by a deep metallic riff over a straightforward beat.

The groovy bassline in Patterns Differences is contributing to the laissez-faire attitude of this track. Sinuous Pattern One is the most minimal production of the EP: A playful and highly rhythmic track.
