Detroit ist Motor City. Detroit ist Asphalt. Detroit ist Autobahn. Detroit ist kalt. Detroit ist arm. Detroit ist schwarz. Detroit ist Fabrik. Detroit ist Soul. Detroit ist Techno. Detroit ist Wurzel.

Die Wortkette, die an dem Ort in Michigan entspringt ist endlos und zeichnet ein ambivalentes Bild der Stadt. Industrielle Kälte und Härte auf der einen Seite – kreative Wärme und Vielfalt auf der anderen. Dabei ist nicht wichtig, ob man die Detroit je mit eigenen Augen gesehen hat, denn Detroit leiht sein Gesicht all denjenigen, die ihre Sehnsüchte darauf projizieren möchten.

DML taucht mit seiner INTO THE DEEP EP in ebenjenen Zwischenraum von streng kalkulierter Form und emotional aufgeladener Spontaneität. ARBEITSTITEL eröffnet die Trilogie und nimmt sich Zeit Spannung aufzubauen und sie wieder zu entladen – damit wird der Track zur hintergründigen, deepen Club-Nummer.

Den sprichwörtlichen zweiten Blick braucht man auch für FLUID, das einerseits zart seine String entfaltet und andererseits den Tacho auf der Achse Detroit-Chicago sanft nach oben treibt.

Mit FÜR S. gelingt DML schließlich der finale Unter- beziehungsweise Aufgang in der Tiefe des Sounds. Der Titel betrachtet alles Vorangegange losgelöst und von einem Punkt tief unter uns und ist damit ganz nah an der Wurzel.

Die Reise INTO THE DEEP ist also mehr als geglückt.

Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, Andy James was inspired by earlier electronic groups like Kraftwerk, New Order, Depeche Mode, Meat Beat Manifesto, Orbital, 808 State, and Underworld. He started to spin records and go to parties regularly in 1998.

Some of the DJs he saw then included Adam Beyer, Marco Carola, Joel Mull, Cari Lekebusch, and Claude Young. At the time he had no idea who they were, but the records they were playing and the way they were mixing them definitely had an impact on him. Fast forward to 2008, Andy has risen to become one of the Midwest’s hardest working techno DJ/producers. Some of the DJs/Producers he has played alongside are Dan Bell, John Tejada, 3 Channels, Ryan Crosson, Seth Troxler, Lee Curtiss, Someone Else, Damian Lazarus, Shawn Rudiman, Dan Curtin, and Stacey Pullen amongst others.

Definitely not stranger to the mixtape/cd, Andy has recorded 20+ mixes that you can usually find archived around the global techno community via the internet. Also a self-confessed studio junkie, Andy has been known to lock himself in his bedroom studio for days meticulously working on a single loop or track. Groovy, hypnotic, dynamic, floor-shaking, and always rhythmic are the best words to describe his current sound.

In October 2007, Andy released an EP for upstart Ohio net-label Tek-Know entitled Ranos (TEK0001). Both tracks were hits on the dancefloor and were well received by his peers. Summer 2008 looks to be a busy one for Andy as he has a release, entitled Memou, on Argentinian net-label Miniatura plus a couple collaborations and remixes coming out on Klectik and Tek-Know later this year.

03_funkatron (svk): Funkatron is the labelhead of setalabel-new slovak mp3 label releasing pure mnml. His debut here on sologroove is definitely one of the most mental hypnotizing remixes, same like his other releases at avalanche rhythms, we love minimal, 4beat, bosphorus underground, sorgen vibes…

04_tom ellis (uk): One of the welsh ellis brothers-tom (aka ekkis)-don’t need to be introduced specially,couse he’s wellknown musician,producer, remixer and dj, releasing vinyl and mp3s at trimsound, citysport, mindtours, minibar, archipel, moon harbour, frankie recs, paperscissorstonemusic… Noted for his amazing funky swinging minimal house tunes.this remix could be the cherry on the top for many minimal house music lovers.
