Luis Rozalen is one of the most prolific Spanish producers. Since end of 80’s he has been working on different projects like “Ballet Mecanico” or “Mo’Septomber”, which led to “HD Substance” -his most known alter ego- and the middle of 90’s.

Today he is presenting us [Miga15] “Corteza”,with an “old school” sound, generated by synths, grooveboxes, and a varied hardware arsenal. Pure eclecticism full of electro and Detroit sounds are the key of this fantastic LP, being Miga suggestion to start this new year

The album deals with mr. Sinatra’s two major musical loves - dub and techno. Working with a minimal set up of a pc, turntable and a mic. The tracks you’ll hear are the result of tedious nights of djing then rushing to the studio to write the ideas steaming from his brain during the sets.

The album is constructed almost as a night out - beginning slow and trippy, gathering speed then go in it at full speed and finally collapsing again. The minimal feel is very obvious here, and it has been a factor in it’s music since the begining in 1995.

The idea was (and always is) to create 3-dimensional music that seems to be 2-dimensional to the naked ear.

«One day, not long ago, Hungarian Daniel P. decided to create some loops for his radio show at Torespont Radio. Some of those loops grew into tracks and that’s pretty much the story behind Project Swirl, Daniel’s minimal dub-infused electro outfit.

Since then, he has released a couple of EPs - on Eastern Recordings and Inoquo netlabels - and a compilation track in some Russian underground netlabel. Meanwhile, a couple more are underway, and this one ‘Alpha Centauri EP’ fell in test tube’s lap some months ago. And we’re glad it did.

Project Swirl’s sound comes as a true descendant of oldschool Basic Channel material, with a bit of monolake’s minimal techno and ~scape’s future dub into the mix. While ‘Alpha Centauri’ travels mostly into electro-techno territory, ‘Logical’ and ‘Illogical’ (two faces of the same coin, so to speak) are truly dubish pieces, reminders of Deadbeat’s more down to earth ‘dance’ tracks, but with a slight touch of german cerebral techno for good measure.

‘Tn’ comes from Daniel’s more ‘experimental’ side, if you wish. It’s downbeat and not for the dance floor, but nice anyway. Sweet!» - Pedro Leitão

Back in the days when I was 17 I started recording drums in the basement. The equipment was rubbish (a slow PC, a six channel mixer, a couple of mics, my old drumset and the good old logic audio version 3.0) It was always good fun…

Two years ago I passed A levels and just thought: Good bye country! Hello Nightclub!!!. After 3 months in London (still digging that old Ninja Style) I moved to Munich. A Couple of weird clubbing nights later and I was definetly into minimal! So I had to do it too (always trying so hard to be hip ;-) )…

Using bloody presets and software synths is boring (anyways I use them sometimes) so I make most of my tunes by recording everydaylife things like tins, empty bottles and electric toothbrushes (No panic! You won’t really hear that: It’s just my producing ethos…),a drum loop here (I’m using a Roland TD6 KV), some FX there et voila out comes the edgy, cranky style of diskofreud (Dancefloor Therapies for the masses)! So probably one day you’ll be dancing to the deep flashy sounds of Vacuum cleaner’n’Bass….

Foxhole - so very very very idm-ish track… Sounds like Autechre met with Michael Paradinas in a wicked co-operation track. Beats are broken and hard, and we don’t mind the bleeps, either.

Shelter - it’s hard to define the style of this track… Because the elements change all the time. From electro to techno sounds. But in somewhat new form which we dig a lot because of some nice geek-sounds that appear in the background all the time. Geektronica, ladies and gentleman… Tuned for your ears.

The Grave Digger’s Song - very dark track with Exorcist-like atmosphere which gives us creepers, but then the minimalistic melody starts and all is good. Following them is some mighty guitar sound… But the beats are the main thing. Deep kick is in the background, but you know he’s always there.
